The Statue of Unity, dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Home Minister, also known as the “Iron Man”, is the world’s tallest statue in architecture and is situated in Gujarat, India, on the banks of Maa Narmada River. This statue reflects the amazing art of engineering.
The Vision Behind the Statue
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a freedom fighter and the first Home Minister of India, was born on 31 October 1875 in Gujarat. Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel participated in the freedom struggle, showed courage to talk to the British eye to eye.
After the independence of India, he integrated all the princely states of India and created the structure of a new India and the Statue of Unity has been built to pay tribute to Sardar Patel.
The Statue of Unity was inaugurated on the occasion of Sardar Vallabhai Patel’s birth anniversary (October 31, 2018) and this day is celebrated all over India as “Ekta Diwas” which inspires every Indian to be patriotic.

The height of the world’s tallest statue, the Statue of Unity, is about 182 meters (597 feet).
This statue displays the engineering glory of India, which was designed by sculptor Ram V. Sutar.
It took about 46 months to build the statue, in which more than 70,000 tons of cement, more than 25,000 tons of steel, more than 3,000 workers, 300 engineers were used.
The height of India’s Statue of Unity is twice that of the Statue of Liberty located in America.
This statue can easily withstand the biggest earthquake, natural disaster and wind speed up to 180 km / hour.

A spectacular laser light and sound show is organized narrating the life of Sardar Patel which also presents a wonderful presentation of the history of India.
