Historical Significance of Badrinath Temple
According to Hindu mythology, when Lord Vishnu incarnated as Nar-Narayan to kill the demon, Lord Vishnu meditated under the Badri tree for thousands of years and to protect Narayan from divine calamities like cold, rain etc., Goddess Lakshmi also incarnated as a plum tree and covered it from all sides, that is why it is called Badrinath.
The credit for re-establishing the temple is given to Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya in India, when he saw that there is no idol in the temple, then with his yogic power and penance, he felt that the idol is in Naradkund, so he took a dip in Naradkund and took out the idol of Lord Vishnu, then installed the idol in the temple.
The chief priests of Shri Badrinath temple are Brahmins of the descendants of Shri Adi Shankaracharya and they also have the right to worship, this tradition has been going on since the time of Shri Shankaracharya, worship is also done according to the Vaishnav method.

The temple is a blend of North Indian styles of construction and is painted in bright colours which makes it look very attractive and the temple houses a black idol of Lord Vishnu in a meditative pose.
